Family tools
We would like to encourage you in your family journey. As parents it is our first priority to “love God wholeheartedly” (Deut 6.5). As we are obeying this commandment, it empowers us to “teach our children diligently” (Deut 6.7-9).
LOVING GOD WHOLEHEARTEDLY
Loving God wholeheartedly is a call to a ONE THING (Psalm 27.4, Luke 10.42) and SERMON on the MOUNT (Matt5-7) LIFESTYLE. Wholehearted love for God seems rare in our western culture. We must shift our hearts NOW because of the intensity of evil rising at the end of the age. Love will grow cold and decrease (Matt 24.12) as fear will grow and increase (Luke 21.26) in the end times. We must fight for the life we want in God. Wholehearted love demands lifestyles of prayer and fasting. Our God is worthy of our fasted lifestyles so that love would increase and fear decrease in the end. “Be on guard, that your hearts may not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day come on you suddenly like a trap” (Luke 21.34). “But keep on the alert at all times, praying… (Luke 21.36).
TEACHING OUR CHILDREN DILIGENTLY
It is crucial that we as parents know the priority of God concerning the hearts of our children. The primary spiritual leadership and development of our children cannot be relegated to our churches, our schools or anyone else. Note in Deut 6. 7-9 we see that the release of love for God and the word of God into the hearts of our children is transferred by us as parents spending quality and quantity time with them. TEACH them DILIGENTLY and TALK the WORD as you sit, walk, lie down and rise up. Keep the WORD of GOD before your children, DAILY. Let us MARK our children with the LOVE of God and the WORD of God.
REVELATION BY MEDITATION
We are training our children to recieve the revelation of God’s word by meditation and prayer. We see that the two on the road to Emmaus had a burning heart released to them as Jesus walked with them and opened up the scriptures to them. Also Paul prayed an apostolic prayer for the church at Ephesus ”that the Father would give to them a Spirit of wisdom and revelation into the knowledge of God” (Eph1.17). So lets define a few things and then talk about some practicals of revelation by meditation.
Revelation means “to take the cover off”. Meditation means “to mutter, to speak”. So we are asking and seeking for God to take the cover off our eyes and hearts and open up the word of God to our inner man. This happens as we M & M. We memorize and meditate on the word of God day and night (Josh 1.8, Psalm 1.2). As we memorize the word, we say is over and over until it is marked and etched into our memory bank. As the Holy Spirit now has a growing pantry (storage) inside our inner man, He can continue to add insight and light to these stored up words which releases revelation upon our minds and hearts. I would call our attention to some of the primary reasons many of us do not meditate on God’s word on a regular basis. BUSY LIVES and CROWDED MINDS. Perhaps you could take some time to look at the ONE THING LIFESTYLE of David (Psalm 27.4) and Mary (Luke 10.42). We must also continue to fight the demands of western culture and cultivate to soil of our hearts against the 3 THORNS of Mark 4.19 and Luke 8.14. 1) worries of this life 2) deceitfulness of riches 3) desires for other things/pleasures of this life. These 3 THORNS enter in and choke the word of God. Also in looking at Psalm 1.1-2 we see several areas that hinder meditation. v.1) Evil association and v.2) the need to DELIGHT in the law of the LORD.
